Knowledge Gardening

Designing events to feed into the 'virtual dojo' of online connection afterwards

The energy and passion of face-to face events soon dwindle after the event if online conversations are not encouraged to continue. The huge potential of communities created at these events - to do something sustainable together in the world and also to support and enrich the lives of the individual participants and the community of communities that is hosted by Evolutionary Nexus - can come closer to realisation if we think about the 'afterlife' already before the event. Here are some of my ideas about how that could be done. Please think along with me and help spread the connection to our community.

1. We should consider in the design of events whether or not we think it likely/desirable that the community be nurtured online into a longer/deeper life.  read more »

Succession Planning

I'd like to learn if anyone in the AoH community has used the "Art of Hosting" model for improving the succession planning process in the organization. I am writing a paper on this topic and would like to integrate any AoH best practices.

What does eLearning mean to learners and developers!

We all agree that the Learning through informal ways always have higher retention and recall then the formal learning sessions. and therefore the current eLearning (WBT and CBT) industry in the Web 2.0 era is putting more emphaisis on making the learning experience as much as informal by using various fun games, online live interactions, etc. Some times the objective is not fully well treated by the budget/time requirement and to some extent by available technology.

There are many ways the industry is catering to this need is produce of second life concept, virtual worlds, video blogging, Avtars ets and the others tools like Flockpod - Social Learning on the spot, kind of tools really helping a lot in achieving the objective.

Hosting and harvesting the conference call during the AoH Stewards gathering in the Shire

Friends, let's use this space for the design and logistics of the conference call. I suggest that we use a simplified version of the chaordic process for developing the design for the call, and start with creating a shared clarity about its purpose, and what draws each of us to help making that happen.

Ideally, we would have that kind of conversation live or, at least in real time on skype, but my schedule is extremely busy till the 19th, when I will leave for the Shambhala retreat. No time to organize calls. If somebody else would do it, I'd try to participate.

User experience and interaction design

Yes. I see one of our functions as hosts is to help that invitation be heard, even "hand-delivered." For example, at f-t-f meetigngs we could play those pages, which have direct relevance to the conversations. Or, we could also post the relevant pages' URL in online conversations, when we sense that specific thought/life energies from Finn, captured in digital format, can travel to people and places, where they can contribute to the life-affirming forces at play.

Structure and content of the Finn site

What should be the main parts of the site, and how can they be organized for more than their sum?

More teaching video's!

News from Ravi:

"Just wanted to let you know that there are a number of new videos up at www.ArtofHostingTV.net. Helen has been adding a number from Art of Hosting trainings in Europe, and there are a couple of new ones from North America as well. I believe there are a total of 22 videos now."

Yesterday evening I was reading through some of the blogs, and one that I go to now and then is the one of David Sibbet. He has many professions and passions, and one is about graphic recording. Look at this blog post with a little video, and you get a sense of what harvesting can be... Scroll down and up in the blog to read more about it...

Action research into knowledge gardening

Some fellow hosts asked me a year ago, to open a conversation on knowledge gardening and how it can support the AoH community. It feels to me this is the right time to start a collaborative, 6-week long action research into that topic. To take a reality check, I want to invite 3 to 5 mates for a learning conversation focused, initially, on this question (or an upgrade of it):

What practices and tools can be the most useful for seeding and feeding the knowledge garden,
in the current, coalescing phase of the global AoH community of practice?
