Frequently Asked Questions

There are two ways to do this.

1. If the image file is on your computer but not already uploaded somewhere on internet, you must first upload it to Evolutionary Nexus. To do this:

  • Move your mouse over add/write/upload - another menu will appear where you can click on 'image'.
  • Fill in the different fields on the page (the ones with red asterisks are obligatory) - give your image a name, add a content taxonomy. If you want, you can add the image to an existing image gallery using the pull-down menu "image galleries". You can add free tags also, to help other people find your picture.
  • Under 'Image', click on the browse button and browse to the folder where your image file is kept. Select the file and its name will appear in the text field.
  • Under 'Body' you can add a description or explanation of your image.
  • Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "submit" (you can preview before submitting if you want to check your work before it is published on Evolutionary Nexus - you still have to wait while the image file uploads, though).

2. If the image already exists somewhere on internet (and after you have uploaded it to Evolutionary Nexus), you can link to it from the place inside your blog or other entry at the position where you want to display it.

  • First, you need the url of the picture you want to display. Surf to the place on the internet where the image is displayed, right click on the image and select 'copy link location'. This copies the url to your clipboard.
  • With your cursor at the place you want the image to be displayed, click on the 'insert/edit image' icon (the one that looks like a tree) in the formatting toolbar under the text window.
  • A new window will open up called 'insertedit image'. Paste the image url into the 'image url' field. You can add a caption in the 'image description' field, and decide how you want it aligned and sized (when you feel like experimenting!).
  • Click on 'insert' and the image will appear in your page.
Putting your cursor on the heading 'communities' (on top of the page) will show the names of all communities that have their online conversation space on Nexus. Clicking on one of the names brings you to the community's home page. You will see now an extra orange box in the left margin. One of the options is 'subscribe'... now you are member of this community! Congratulations! Please add your experience, questions and wisdom in order for the community to blossom!
Uploading a file - that  can be found back in the Library (Commons > Library) involves the following steps:
  1. position yourself in the library page
  2. expand the 'Upload and New Folder Options'
  3. select a target folder, where you think this file sits best
  4. click Browse and select your file at 'Upload a file to target directory'
  5. click the 'Upload' or 'New Folder'
Before opening a new conversation, it is a good practice to think about and respond to such questions as:

What is the need for the conversation?

What is its purpose, and what kind of outcomes do you expect?

How long will be its anticipated duration?

Who will be the participants and the host?

Are you inviting participants in via a blog post in the Nexus blog (which is site-wide) or via one (or more) community blog (post a community blog and choose the targeted community as audience) or send a separate email?

What guidelines for engagement would you recommend to them?

Do they need a wiki too besides the conversation space?
