Bill Aal suggested some issues for our agenda:

  • Looking at who is showing up for the enexus site
  • The telephone calls around es3
  • The planning for the Moving the Edge
  • How are people using the site?
  • Can we find ways to encourage wider usage?
  • How are we sensing into the purpose for the enexus?
  • Is this a place to create a sacred space in cyberspace?

What else would you all, who want to come to the site stewards' synch session, like to add?

What would be the most inspiring outcome of the synch session that you can imagine?"

The synch session as it was envisioned didn't happen so far, but a lot of conversation was going on and still is ...

Woooo huuuuu!!!

Woooo huuuuu!!!

Phone scheduling is hard for me, too

I appreciate both modes, but like Lion I can't generally be on the phone during regular work hours these days. As it happens, keeping up with postings on the site has been difficult for me lately as well.  Frown

The most inspiring outcome of our confcall

What a powerful way to see our potential, and an act servant leadership to voice it! If we show up in the call with a passionate curiosity for each other's wisdom, talents, and how we can combine them for meeting our significant challenges, we WILL realize that potential, no doubt.

Thanks Ria, I join you in

Thanks Ria, I join you in your thoughts and I look forward to talking on Thursday.

Plenty of Space {:)}=

Don't think I understand you well

Ashley, it is totally OK to post my email.

But I'm not sure that I understand you well... you want online dialogue... you want the right channels... do you mean voice-channels in ENexus?  ???

Whoever is showing up in the call will be the right people, and if it is only the two of us; then something needs to be done just by the two of us. That's what I think right now.

I love all those things; Logistics just work against me.

Real need: I can't participate in y'alls phone calls, because I'm at work when you're having them.

I'm not saying there's no value in those things; Of course there is. Of course they are unique spaces. Of course they have unique energies. It's clear and studied to death.

I'm saying: This can work without them. It's not an imperative that we have them. George wrote that without it, this can't work. I don't believe that, because I participate in several groups that work just fine without it.

If you want to have them, that's fine. I'm just saying: Please, I can't participate, (so please stop inviting that I do,) and no, I don't think they're an imperative necessity for motion.

I'm not ignoring you all; I just can't participate. (And I'm okay with that.)

Ashley, thank you for your heart for the community

Ashley, I cherish your standing in the possibility for what the Nexus community can become  in spite the maddening limitation of its current environment. Doing so, you embody that possibility and I impatient to put our minds and hearts together to discover the best course of action to help that possibility manifest. This is just a quick nore of immediate reflection, while i am still in a workshop with Jean-François, Fernanda, Sheri and others. Hope to connect with you and the stewards after my return on, later this week.

  • making the Open Task Pool (or any other simple process) work for connecting  this kind of needs with geek talent wanting to support the community
  • finding out what it would take to inspire commitment among evolutionary geeks to be more responsive to the need of making the Nexus more useful

That can be fixed by a simple switch in Drupal display options. However, before doing that, it is necessary that tjhe stewards make a consicous choice among the various display options, and understand the  "social dynamics" implications of each option.

Lion, Sorry for my delay

Lion,

Sorry for my delay in responding. It is really comforting for me to know that you do feel called and helpful to know that you feel more comfortable in the written form. I will do my best to keep you (the online space) updated as to what unfolds in conversations (much like what has been happening with the ES3 planning conference calls). If you get any inclination to stretch the comfort zone into less structured thoughts but more immediate human interaction with vibrating voices, feel free to jump in!

I know that one reason I am currently much more partial to phone calls is that I get frustrated when I try and engage with this site. Right now the window that I am typing in is less than 1 inch wide. I can see 6 lines of my text. I much prefer to have a larger window and the option to see more of the whole-unfolding of what I am writing. I also never know which reply button to push. If I'm responding to this whole general thread, where do I enter the text? And when I arrive and see all the different responses scattered about, no order to which came first or last in the flow of the page, only in the indention of the words... I feel like I'm doing more work than I need to to engage the site. So, I stay away. I'm not voicing these things as a means of complaining (I don't feel a whiney tone inside right now!!), just as an expression of what keeps me from engaging in this online space.

thanks,

ashley

Timing and energy

I'm transfering some of an email that was sent by Ria to Dana and Fernanda and I. There was 'chatter' that work was being done on potential designing of this site and Ria sent a personal email  as a means of inquiry. I'm reposting her words without permission... and hoping that for including the whole, that is okay.

She wrote: I mean with it the people who can make the site - Drupal or not - into something really beautiful. George said you know somebody who is willing to help with that..; that would be great.
Do you have an idea how we should go forward with this? Are conference calls enough to -at least - let it start?
Do you think around the same line as Ashley and I in our call Sunday? which we posted on ENexus..

Ashley proposed a conf.call next Thursday at 8.30 Seattle time. I could do at 9.30 Seattle time (18.30 over here). Do you want to be part of it, can you make it at that time?

And my response (only appearing here)!

I am available for the 9:30 seattle time skype/gizmo call (or whatever other means). I am definitely feeling some 'how to' tension right now as I feel the energy for online dialogue very strong and my intuition just keeps screaming that the 'right' channels aren't currently open to support what could be possible. By channels I mean the current structure in place here. I would much prefer to explore my thoughts in voice than typing here and look forward to that opportunity. I wonder if there is a time that other people are available. George? I feel a little bit of tension regarding Ria and I as the only ones on the call since I don't think either of us have the technical capacity to implement what could arise.

 Just voicing some thoughts,

Ashley

My two cents. . . .

Lion, I actually love online life.  I have many streams within me that are perfectly content to interact with people only online.  When I first started leading the planning for ES3, I was startled, hard, to realize some people would be picking up the phone and talking to me.

Here's some reasons for phone calls:

A different energy.

Yes, you can have great energy online, awesome etheric waves can flow online but, my hunch is that as great as they are, they are different than a phone call or, even, a f2f.

Some people are dyslexic .

do we want to be creating whole streams of human interaction that do not, at least in tiny part, have the old fashioned touch?

speakiong only for myself, I experience energy in profoundly different ways online versus on a phone call.  I like both but I need both to be my whole self.

Next conf.call

8.30 could work for me, but I will only know tomorrow afternoon if it is free next Thursday. I will let you know!

When I know in advance almost any day works for me, except Thuesday.

Possible answer to Why phone calls?

Maybe it is only because we are used to it, more than to the online space?

AND: I can experience more depth, more understanding, more sensing... in telephone call... maybe only because I'm used to it; don't know..

Why phone calls?

Why? Why phone calls?

I've been with the CommunityWiki for at least 3 years now. We work almost entirely online, without realtime phone conversation. So, why the need for phone calls?

I like them too, but I don't see how they are mandatory. Is there a specific need that requires phone calls right now?

Regular phone calls are very rare in online circles, but they work just fine. The vast majority of Free Software development has near-zero phone time.

Since I dreamt Nexus into being...

I knew that it will not fly unless a small group of people feel the need are committed to "meeting regularly (regular phone calls) and coming to know itself as a collective and working/generating together." Thank you Ashley and Ria for the energy that can make that happen.

I'd be there next Thursday but unfortunately, will be in the air flying back to Europe from the US.

Written Form

I appreciate the invitation, and I do, indeed, feel myself called.

But I actually feel a lot more comfortable with the written form, because I can structure my thoughts a bit more. (Perhaps hard to believe, from what I've been writing! But, I have difficulty saying these things on the fly.)

Further, I can write whenever, and don't have to tie you all up at the same time..!
For example, if I post at midnight, you all don't have to be awake at midnight, whatever time it is wherever you are.

That said, I am a strong proponent of regular real-time voice conversation.  It affords/invites another sort of voice, which is very important. But I personally don't think I can make it.

What is the field calling for?

I propose that the intention (and agenda) of this next call be "What is the field calling for?" In this thread we have expressions of what we each are hearing, Bill's ideas, some of George's, Ashley and Ria's, and Dana's. We are also hearing Lion speak a voice of the collective (I sure hope you will join this call if you feel called, Lion). It is beauitiful and perfect that we are each listening to what we are individually receiving as being 'what's next'. I propose that on the call itelf, we open space for the field to speak through us... for us to recognize our individual perceptions of what needs attention, hold those perceptions close, and release into the expanse of meditative silence where we may truly hear that which is being called for...right now. From there we will each know how to respond.

The most inspiring outcome that I could imagine would be that each person felt truly seen and heard for the wisdom that they bring to the group and that the connections between us would be strengthened, forming coherent bonds and the beginnings of a trusting collective that is inspired to work together.

It seems that early morning Seattle time is a convenient time for over seas as well. My first choice would be 8:30 on Thursday mornings (though not tomorrow). What times and days work for you?

Wisdom and beauty

I would like to be a part of creating wisdom and beauty on the site

Next stage of co-sensing and co-creating

Last Sunday Ashley and Ria had a talk on the next stage for ENexus. You can read the highlights of this talk (with a little history).

What we see as essential is:

the need for a collective to hold space for a bigger collective

needed to meet regularly (regular phone calls) and coming to know itself as a collective and working/generating together

4 main lines or essential parts of being were defined:
1. A site that is beautiful, warm, inviting (user friendly and seducing to come back), simple, honors silence
2. A place where knowledge is shared and that is searchable
3. A site that is sustainable... money: Awareness of time, effort, and energy spent.
4. A site that facilitates relational connections and engagement
These are all aspects of hosting.
The community of stewards will need to look at all 4 and integrate them!

Please add your part of the picture and write down your name if you want to take part in the regular calls that will be planned.
