The mission of Evolutionary Nexus is about connecting.

We want to connect. But what do we want to connect? How do we want to connect? What are the simplest and most effective tools to support that? Are the tools already out there, being applyed by communities of practice ahead of us in their way of doing the work?

Does connection really need a site like this, or will it happen anyway?

These questions came up in a Skype chat between Ria and Finn, and on the question: So what to do about it? grew the idea to call for a focused conversation around the question "What could be possible futures of Evolutionary Nexus?", and with the invitation to participate in the conversation extended to whomever using this site would feel called to join.

ENexus Stewards conference call - May 11th, 2006

ENexus Stewards conference call
George, Finn, Martin E., Martin L. later
May 11th, 2006

Spontaneous silence
We are developing new social skills! curious how they will find their expression online.

Check-in:
Finn: finished chapter 4 of the book; heavy to integrate this knowledge in this area; next chapter is on business MtE; relief!

Ria: blocking, brewing energy of the last days went today into three generative dialogues. Seeds coming to the surface; energized, happy, energized.

George: connectedness with this group of stewards. Being in Hungary; the edge is moving there also! Left in ’75, and this time was the first time of being at home. Many fields that I’m connected with and what does it mean in terms of my work? Sometimes overwhelming, I need more sharing about the pieces of the puzzle.

Martin: connectedness; relaxed; no sense of work, sense of exploration. Back together with former girl friend, after 7 months! Relaxedness, things will happen as they should.

Conversation:
Duane Elgin names 8 stages of development of consciousness; one of the stages is when the connectivity creates human bonds and a sense of human family as a next level of evolution. I notice, in the book it is a prediction to come; we are sitting right in the middle of it.
In a gathering with some friends of MtE and others: some people never had met before, some knew each other for many years: no difference! It was like hanging out with friends, stay tuned, stay sharp and not going into small talk. The quality in the meeting: visiting the different cultures, cross boundaries, not just sharing stories

The social technologies we are developing are the lay-out for cosmic habits for future generations. The importance of being so careful and so awake and aware and taking the time to notice is growing as an important thing to do.
Our practices and social technologies form some grooves for the cosmic habits. One of those emerging habits is the enhanced attention with which we are present in these precious moments of real time connections. We visit with one another. On the phone, in these inspired moments when we say what we sense, I want to honor and treasure those moments by making it available to those of us who are not here in this moment. That’s why I paid attention to notice how we started capturing what we say in the chat window.

Being able to meet in loving relations, it changes the meaning of ENexus: a meeting place for loving relations! How can Nexus be that? This is a cosmic habit we are forming. It is important to be mindful about what we are doing.

Practices:
- using the chat box:
the tracks go back to planning team of ES3 and its happening now in different places.

- using a whiteboard with different colors and images, (asking Ashley)

- using images on the screen so we all  relate to the same image; even when it changes during the call. This is connecting: meaning in meeting - meeting in meaning.

On ENexus there should be just a click on the bottom to be in such a room like that! would be very supportive!
Meeting board - image projecting - voice line
Drupal has a meeting board, but it is not as clear as Skype or Gizmo.
The technology is not that difficult; just a hyperlink. Developing the social practices from the place of the whole, pay attention to it: describe and voice it.

connecting conversations
Ria finds herself in interesting, generative dialogues with many people.
what is the best way to share it with the rest of the world, with whoever is interested in that? Will try a blog, but may be there are other ways too?
- Combination of simple tools is needed; the individual blog.
- How much is really of value of being shared? this is another question of recording and capturing. How to harvest the juicy part in each? Not taking notes out of fear, but meeting in meaning. If it came from consciousness,  it's worth being shared.
- important to differentiate recording and sharing.

Martin's design:
very simple: focus around simplicity - overview from the beginning: drawn into it, because it is beautiful and looks simple.
* maybe it is too squary for the feminine?
* templates can be customized, and creating new templates is also possible.
There is a test site to try out new things. Martin L. could try to make template
some ...

The design needs to support the high level functionalities.

Next step:  come to a shared clarity about the high level funct.

How do we come to an agreement, a temporary closure?

Proposal/agreement: we read the notes on the high level functionality; everybody adds what we see needed, then somebody collects all this and that is the basis for a next call and hopefully we can come to agreement then.

categorisation and high functionality

Ashley's response to Martin L's new draft

Ashley writes in response to Martin L's new front page draft (http://www.evolutionarynexus.org/filestore2/download/477/MOCKUP03_3.pdf):

This is wonderful to see... thank you so much for pointing my eyes.

I reallllllllly agree with this:

And then there is a thing that most professional webdevelopers would disagree on, but I think it is like this: simplicity has also  to do with the space between content. So we want to give readers and participants relaxation in their gaze to the page - to me  this means more space between items like posts and menus, AND it means a fixed width on the entire site. This is the issue of  scalability vs. graphic design, and I really think we should consider defining a fixed width of 920 pixels as this would give us  space around the site for most users. Space which actaully gives some of that quietnes that we need. 'Flow needs fixity' as  Malcolm McCullough once said.

I think there could even be more space between the sidebars and the middle bulk of the content. I think the use of picture icons (small and simple) for each of the main areas could also help for utilizing multiple intelligences... just an idea.

Lay-out for event centered conversations... and a bit more

Ashley wrote:

> I think it could be wonderful if the events section had a clear lay out of the event centered conversations...

Yes, indeed. Does anybody have an image of the layout for an evemt (or community) homepage, from which the wikis, forums, and blogs of that event or community are linked?

Turning on blogrolls

Ashley wrote:

Is there a way for us to spotlight other community members' blogs that are not housed directly in evolutionary nexus... but are still blogs belonging to members of our community?

All it would take is to turn on or install a "blogrolling" plugin. It may be even part of the just relesased 4.7 version of Drupal full of juicy goodies!

Other Community Member Blogs

Is there a way for us to spotlight other community members' blogs that are not housed directly in evolutionary nexus... but are still blogs belonging to members of our community?

A favorite part for me has been the post-event reflection. After Evolutionary Salon 2 and Moving the Edge I loved reading and feeling the buzz of participants returning to their worlds and carrying with them the fields that emerged. I think it could be wonderful if the events section had a clear lay out of the event centered conversations...

Moved it to its own topic

Hi Martin, thanx for posting "One fruit of the last Nexus stewards' call".

To keep this conversation focused on building Nexus 2.0, I copied your "introducing the current Nexus" post into a new topic dedicated to

Demoing Evolutionary Nexus to individuals and groups.

One fruit of the last Nexus stewards' call

In our Nexus stewards' talk yesterday, Ria, George, Martin L., Finn and Martin E. talked about the importance of knowing which parts of Nexus are most suitable for introducing newcomers to Nexus. My favourite part of Nexus is the personal blogs section, http://www.evolutionarynexus.org/blog. Here I get a feel of the people who are making up Nexus, getting a sense of the connectedness of this affair.

I’m interested to hear which part of Nexus is your favourite part or the part you find most suited for introduction for newcomers?

Nexus stewards' call April 30: Letting work arise without effort

In a breathtaking conversation, Ashley, George and Martin E connected deeply, in spite of, or thanks to, bad quality telecommunications audio. The conversation included 10 minutes of meditation. We shared a feeling of joy, arising from being connected, noting that it was not terribly important to understand every word uttered, as long as the hearts were connected.

Out of this connectedness arose the insight that the work to improve Nexus could happen without effort. When the hearts are connected in this way, the spontaneously creative impulse is much easier to access.

We decided to stay in connection with the field that arose and do 15 minutes of spontaneous writing after hanging up. The outcome is posted in the wiki pages.

Noticing Patterns

Here is a very rough synthesis of what stood out to me when reading the various contributions to this thread (it's a scanned image of my notes).

ENexus Stewards call April 23, 2006

Martin, Ria, George, Ashley (later)

Silence: What is our guiding question?

what's next?

is it action or talking-defining-elaborating?

what is needed now for emergence? coming into being from the parts of each of us...

Martin as designer asked:
What are the founding values of the site?
What must be supported by the site? how much must be supported?
metaphor of a growing city: what is the map of the city? what is the map of Evonexus?

values, principles we already talked of: beauty, ease of use, simplicity…

grounding values: we can take from our working together as stewards… for the purpose of increasing the interconnectivity

What is not spoken of, kind of underneath principles:
respect, integrity, deep listening
collective leadership as: shared responsibility for a shared purpose

the site needs to be inviting for joining this shared responsibility

What needs to be supported: easy linking (see Finn’s contribution); so everybody could moderate conversations.
Like items with multiple parents...

Looking into the Design proposal from Martin: from invitation(s) going into conversations

people need to know: where do I need to go?

can we combine simplicity-beauty and invitation to a lot of spaces?

click-stream = the shortest possible from the front page to any page, no more than 3 or 4 clicks. the click-stream will change over time, as the site is evolving. popular pages change...

user-centric design

so front-page should give a top level map, a map of the main containers : action-verbs or navigational labels

(Martin stepped out of the conversation, Ashley joined in.)

George’s proposal: mostly two navigation systems: content categories (horizontal) and navigation labels (vertical)

Overall question: what is the combination of simplicity, overview and functionality?

From Ashley’s proposal: emergence: how to translate?
emergence= new whole, new qualities, emerging from parts which cannot be predicted from the qualities of the parts... Qualities of parts won't predict exactly that which will emerge. . .
How do we enable emergence in our practice of co-creating the site?
weaving together, engaging with the shared parts...taking in the whole of the parts for the emergence of a new whole

We saw two ways of dealing with the elements of the proposals and the calls: the masculine way (making a draft on ourselves) combining with the feminine way (in relational space)
Ashley's weaving is also a deep meditative space
We agreed that we (whoever feels called to do) will create a synthesis draft, before next call.

Side-conversation: building a shared language
examples:
Inner grow wikipedia;
Ingegral wikipedia (but I really like inner grow!)
http://integralwiki.net/index.php?title=Main_Page -- the integral encyclopedia
the shared language - wikipedia can be valuable, if someone takes leadership for this. we could park this kind of ideas in a parking lot.

Practicalities/agreements:

* the common field of attention is now on creating the synthesis drafts...
* Martin will ask Martin E. to join these conversations.
* Next call Sunday 30 april 8 pm Brussels time, 11am Seattle time (Ria will not be there)

New forum on Discovering/Creating Abundance

Dear Sheri, thank you for your heartfelt words and vision for abundance. I appreciate you as an inspiring, co-thinking partner. To do justice to the important issues of "creating abundance," I opened a new forum dedicated to it. Let's continue this conversation there.

thank you & creating abundance

dear george,

> so far, all money spent on the current version came out from the (not deep) pocket of CommunityIntelligence.

i would like to at this time to thank you for what you and communityintelligence have provided in terms of time, energy, ideas and vision for version 1.0 of evonexus.  deep thanks.  i know how much energy a project like this can take.

> ideally, we could ask the users to chip in with some donation but i don't feel good about doing that before they receive  much higher value from the site  than what they can get  from Nexus 1.0

i imagine that as nexus 2.0 comes into being and people begin to see how their own visions and ideas being part of a participatory and cocreative design process, they will want to share their own wealth and donate as they can to such a project.  i know i would.

this goes to a much bigger question of how we create more abundance in our community.  some people in our midst are doing alot of deep sensing into this field and i can't wait til they are ready to share!  so until we transition from our current economy to a wisdom economy (or social media economy or participatory economy or attention economy...enlightened economy or emergent economy or p2p economy), we may need to seek funding from sources who are interested in supporting strategic cultural projects like this one.  i know when i was doing alot of development work, foundations were very interested in funding f2f strategic conversations...and why not p2p strategic conversations as well.  many things emerging along those edges (edges becoming core...)

warm lightfall,

sheri

Budget for Nexus 2.0

> he works in a software cooperative and they are all brilliant integral geeks and he is an artist and designer. ... i recently met a great guy at our seattle planetwork evenings who is with drupal guild.  they worked on ions new site shift in action and others that are part of our larger community.  he may have some ideas too in this, even though he's not the designer on the team.

Thank you Sheri for the news. We sure could use any tech help we can get from Drupal-friendly geeks to realize our dreams for Nexus 2.0.

>i'm wondering if there is any kind of budget and has that conversation been broached at all, short term long term planning/design.

so far, all money spent on the current version came out from the (not deep) pocket of CommunityIntelligence

ideally, we could ask the users to chip in with some donation but i don't feel good about doing that before they receive  much higher value from the site  than what they can get  from Nexus 1.0

design for evolution

hi george,

i may have this circular design in subsequent pages going on in my imagination only.  and the navigation piece is really of course key for how people can flow through the site.  i remain hopeful on this one and have planted a seed with a designer/programmer friend of mine.  he works in a software cooperative and they are all brilliant integral geeks and he is an artist and designer.  we'll see what emerges from that conversation.  i've shared with him this thread so he has more context and understands the big visioning of what is happening here.  he would definitely appreciate this.

i will keep musing on this and looking for examples and talking to other coders and designers who i might pull into the project.  i recently met a great guy at our seattle planetwork evenings who is with drupal guild.  they worked on ions new site shift in action and others that are part of our larger community.  he may have some ideas too in this, even though he's not the designer on the team.

i'm wondering if there is any kind of budget and has that conversation been broached at all, short term long term planning/design.

evolutionary media newswire

On a slightly different note that has to do with technology and media (and web design), i was reading worldchanging.com this morning and one of the recent articles focuses on a relatively new module for drupal called "aggregator2": Aggregator2 turns the Drupal platform into a powerful tool for news tracking and republishing by offering options for customizing news feeds, tagging news items, and moderating incoming news.”  we could incorporate this into our platform design.  http://www.worldchanging.com/archives/004355.html#more

When I read this I went into jumptime, into the future, highest possibilities and potentials, and was inspired to think of what kinds of news feeds would an evolutionary community/network have.  How would we design that into the current layout.  If the future is already here, and it’s just unevenly distributed (says William Gibson and others), how might we tap into that more enlightened news and stories that are inspiring our culture and planet toward new ways of being (i think of imaginify.net that jair is intimately involved with).

So, what are the first elegant steps toward initiating such a thing.  Maybe we could have a place where we’d put in all our collective favorite sites/media/newswires/stories from those more "evolutionary" sources (broad and diverse definition) and communities that are growing rapidly around the planet.  what would such a newswire look like.  this is a seed for later down the road in terms of planning.
I'm inspired by thinking of evolutionary nexus as a place for sharing news and information from more enlightened sources.  even while i love the work of worldchanging and yes magazine and ode magazine and omidyar and the wisdom channel (no longer operational) and up and coming betterment media, and the ones that are still coming into being, I wonder for us now, what are the first elegant steps toward initiating such a thing.  What could such a newswire be for us now.  I believe there is a niche waiting to be filled.
A group of us touched on this seed idea at the last evolutionary salon in january in one of the "big media" sessions (big as in big mind media).  we talked about “polling” all the people who have come to the salons and asking them about their favorite sites/news stories/other....so we could create a kind of repository for these ideas – what are the “evolutionary wake makers” – an idea virus for the evolutionary community.  We merely planted a seed and then the salon finished and we all went on our way.  So it emerged again for me today when I read about Aggregator2 for Drupal….
Perhaps an evolutionary media salon is something we could initiate.  I know several people who are very excited about this idea.  Maybe we could combine it with emergent technology as well.  but the role evolutionary nexus can play in this conversation is very interesting to me - a nexus for the stories that the evolutionary agents are reading and are inspired by….
Ahhh, eager for this conversation.  Warmly, Sheri

circular menus / next stewards call

hi Sheri,

Thank you so much for your inspiring input and support.

> instead of it being the standard way of things on the left, things in straight lines, things on top, to the right.  in the initial page and hopefully subsequent pages, we find the feminine sacred circular images guiding our way in.  lines and circles.

It would be easy to implement that on the home page. However content manues and navigation menus need to be accessible from all pages, that's why people place them on the edges, which can leave free the center of each page for its main content.

> i have seen this beautifully done

If you can point to circle-shape menu maintained in subsequent pages, that would be very much appreciated. We couild certainly use some design imagination. It will be pretty costly to implement it (needs deep re-coding), nevertheless worth to take a closer look.

> perhaps joining you on the next call

the next call will be on Sunday, Apr. 30, 8 pm (Amsterdam time)

we may be more than 5 people, so we would need to have it not by skype but gizmo or freeconference.com

deep breathing in online space - creating openings for emergence

this idea has been floating around for a while and i'm trying to find some coders and designers who can help us implement this beautiful idea.  ashley has spoken about how we translate our in person practices to the online world and i believe this is truly one of our great tasks.  especially those practices we are discovering help us clear our mind of the old patterns of thinking, help us find our way into deeper listening and sensing, and sense with more of our multiple intelligences.  this is definitely an interesting design question.

this space to hear the bell, to see a page of soft blues or greens... to be reminded that there is silence in between the worlds, there is space in between the logs of this collective fire we are building.  to look around and consider something else.  to let go of our attachments....i WOULD LOVE to see this integrally woven and designed into the fabric of an evolutionary nexus website version 2.5 :)))

and i am talking to my wonderful integral geek and designer friends about just this.

love, sheri

patterns of circles for design

hi stewards,

i have been following your conversations with great excitement and energy and talking to ashley (my neighbor of literally only 3 blocks away) about these issues for some time now.  they are also near and dear to my heart as i am involved with several other initiatives that are interestingly enough in similar birthing processes (even if not identical).  i LOVE what is emerging here and how george has framed it in terms of versions.  we are in version 2.0.  this collaborative cocreative open source open heart open mind open will development process is beautiful.  thank you for all of your holding of this piece and holding the vision of what is possible for such a nexus of intersecting evolutionary initiatives.

a few things are coming to me as i'm heading into a skype meeting about generative dialogue and presencing practices, and one is in response to finn's suggestion of doorways - which is beautiful.  so welcoming, so much a part of our everyday lives.  if we were to translate christopher alexander's pattern language of the flow of energy and how that affects space, what does that look like in an online space.  so the collective wisdom initiative has something like this - doorways.

http://www.collectivewisdominitiative.org/doorways.htm

i then loved martin's idea of the "U" for this flow of movement and of course much more could be said there, but how cool.  but i am seeing the initial entrance portal as a circle.  with all the doorways leading off from the rim.  instead of it being the standard way of things on the left, things in straight lines, things on top, to the right.  in the initial page and hopefully subsequent pages, we find the feminine sacred circular images guiding our way in.  lines and circles.  i have seen this beautifully done and i'm looking for an example now...but until i do, i'm just planting this seed.

i also loved your open "normal" vocabulary martin as a core principle.  simple clear language is so helpful for people to feel able to dive in.  this initial invitational sense is key to me.

i love all of this.  and i feel so much great energy flowing from this conversation.  it is energizing me and i'm sure this is rippling out into the larger community :)

look forward to perhaps joining you on the next call - today is was busy working on another project.

warm connection,

sheri

Creating an online space for silence

Re: A few more ideas

I'm following the growth of this page with interest. I'm happy to see so many good suggestions and I'm looking forward to seeing many or some of them implemented. One of the many ideas that strike a chord in me, is the idea of creating an online space for silence as you suggested, Ashley. A way to remind people, if they like, to take a few minutes of silence. I certainly appreciate it when I get help to remember to sometimes let go of the fast cyber pace.

A few more ideas

I haven't had a chance to be with this design intention in the fullness of presence that I would like. I hear Finn echoing in my head saying: "It is focus that we need" and I feel where I have not been able to access my own focused Nexus energy. . .

. . . now... I am going to take a few moment's in silence and see what emerges as an offering/contribution to your call tomorrow.

EMERGENCE (mystery, unknown) Ever sense our call last week I have been feeling the beautiful shape of the circle and the space it holds for openness, togetherness, seamless connections, and the emergence of unfolding mystery. I keep seeing a circle of emergence at the center of our site (and some graphics that just invite the eye to disappear into the wonder of the mysterious and the unknown that is emerging). That again showed up in my silence.

events
community -- conversations (forum), photos, bios, marketplace (giving and receiving... making requests and offerings... an example of my dream for this in all communities is written about here: http://easilyamazed.com/blog/2006/04/marketplace.html),
co-creation -- projects and initiatives where co-sensing and expanded participation is invited and welcomed
evolutionary wikipedia -- glossary, defining the language that is being spoken here
? ? ? -- descriptions of evolutinoary intiatives connected to this site, reseearch

I also bring back an earlier suggestion (I don't remember where it originated) to have certain areas (perhaps the forum) marked with a still screen that represents silence and the opportunity to ring a bell before entering the area... replicating the social technologies that we use in person in the online space.

Thoughts on "doorways" - entrypoints to Enexus

I envision a frontpage with a picturebackground - a picture that shifts regularly. (Finding the nexts picture can be seen as a conversation it self)

A circular arrangement of "doorways" - each door having a unique icon and a simple, direct and logical name.

In the midle of the circle a text like:

Welcome to this site, where evolutionary initiatives and the people behind them can connect, with the intention to realize our highest potential as contribution to the whole.

The content of this site is created as you are using it.

Also the tools and the infrastructure on this site are evolved as we learn to do it.

A first shot on the doorways - and with the general idea to start with the few that we know we would like to offer, and then add more doorways, as and if it shows up to be of service to users:

Co-created texts (points to wikipages, ordered by topics and themes and clusters.....)
Dialogues (forums)
Personal blogs (points to active personal blogs, latest updated on the top of the list)
Gatherings, events and initiatives (could be ES2, MTE, ES3,...., and the specific doorway leed to all stuff related to that event. The same stuff can be related to several events and thus shows up several places)
Site stuff (points to enexus news, usertips, tools, stewards circle)
My personal doorway (a facility where you can add any other doorway or link within a doorway or any other deep link to a personalize menu of entrypoints. "recent posts" , and "my account" are added by default. if choosen this menu will appear on all pages)
People (points to memberlists, etc.)

Ideally with a mouse-over effect so that the choices in each doorway pops up as you put the mouse on the icon for the doorway.

The graphic layout of each of the sections (co-created texts, dialogues, blogs, events...) should be individualized according to the purpose, content, and kind of use of that section. You should get a different graphic sense when in the forum part, than when in the co-creating texts part.

and each gathering/event/initiative should have its own unique graphic tone.

An easy-to-use tool for creating links in between postings in a sidebar (or topbar) toolboxs would be great

One sketch of evoNexus 2.0

Hi fellow stewards

I have uploaded a file here: http://www.evolutionarynexus.org/filestore2 . It's a personal and handdrawn sketch that maybe is hard to read from outside my head :) . especially the writing, but please try anyway.

The main idea was to use words that are open, but part of normal vocabulary, so visitors would get an immidiate understanding.

The main menubar in the top has menu-items with a small explanations below - these are meant as invitations / explanations of each topic.

Invitation and transparency came to me as the important aspects of the sketch, in the short silence before drawing. we taked about greating an invitational field on the site...

Evolutionary Nexus 2.0

Nexus has been and still is in its beta version but we forgot to say that on the site, so everybody has been related to it as it was the final released version. That's why I suggest to call the new version that we are working on "Evolutionary Nexus 2.0."

Here is my suggestion for its structure:

Line of top menu tabs:
Explore -- Expand -- Belong  -- Converse -- Co-create -- Meet

"Explore" pull-down menu extends to:
    Orientation
    Site Map
    Help Desk
    Your Subscriptions

"Expand" pull-down menu extends to:
Expand your horizon with:
Jump Time News, an intertactive online journal
Evolutionary Research: essays, interviews with leading evolutionary thinkers

"Belong" pull-down menu extends to:
Communities, each of which with its own homepage and "sense of place"
    Evolutionary Salons
    Moving the Edge
    P2P Foundation
    I, You, We
        profiles
        members directory

"Converse" pull-down menu extends to:
Forums (list of all conversations at Nexus)

"Co-create" pull-down menu extends to:
Wiki pages, including uses suggested by Lion

"Meet" pull-down menu extends to:
Events

Frontpage center: community blog

Other ideas for Nexus containers to consider

• "Declare" (example: in www.shiftinaction.com)

• Commune (example: in www.shiftinaction.com)
quote: Our Commune Rooms have been described as "a Chat Room Crossed with a Zendo." Each Room lets you chat with friends using a special interface on the right side of the page; but unlike other chat or IM applications, Shift in Action weaves evocative music, images and wisdom phrases into a transformative ambience to inspire your conversation and put you deeply in tune with your "Room Mates."

What is missing from all of the above, structure-wise?
What would you add or change
?

Share ideas as they emerge

As you can read in the comment below, we agreed to share our ideas for the front page before next call, Sunday, April 23rd; Brussels time: 8pm; Seattle time 11am.

Please click on "edit" and write or copy your ideas here, right below.

The first idea that came to me was a tab named "I, you,we". It could be a replacement for both the 'My account' and 'Member list'. It would be - in my opinion - something better than naming it 'The community'.

Another one is "Our-story". I see that a lot of content that is now on the site, even if it is only a few months old, is already part of the his-story or her-story or our-story.

Skype Call ENexus Stewards

Skype Call
ENexus Stewards: April 14th, 2006.
Finn, Martin, Ashley, Ria, George (for a while)

While Skype-talking, we used the chatbox to type in the relevant words, sentences, concepts... this is, more or less, what you can find below.

Silence:

Answers:
beauty, ease of use - what can be done now? What can we do now?

What is needed for making the Evo Nexus clear?

collective grounding in beyond short-term now

offered by Ashley: Evolving spirit image:

Can we hold the tension between what is and what could be?
The difference is seen as a problem, but it is a creative tension.
As it is, that is where we evolve from. Where is attention focused: on What-is ... or on: What-is-not? We need a spectrum that includes what is now and beyond.

Ashley told about the separate space for the planning group of ES3. It is like a womb, where the forming of the being of ES3 can happen.

A vision: ENexus as an evolution of sites.
ENexus could have some foreground activity – event specific - and a background that is more community oriented; with different doorways in... they could be: event specific, task specific, theme specific, peoples specific....

That will be better than now: "having all the stuff blown into your face when you first enter" can be intimidating.

Martin as designer asked: What are the grounding values of this site?

The purpose says: increasing connectivity. We explored the notion of connecting through meaning. Not meaning-making, but ‘we meet in meaning’.

(the connectivity was broken… and restored)

Many different entry points to . . . connect through meaning

meaning as a state

Mission... to connect

meaning is the connector

New question: How can connecting through meaning be supported?

MEANINGFUL CONNECTION AS THE HEART OF ENEXUS.

What is in the way of clarity?
What is, that if spoken to, would enable us to see clear?

Doorways: what doorways should there be?

collective meaning

emergence

beauty, simplicity, invitation

room for mistakes and failure

sustainable architecture

What are the doorways that we think will be of service to offer... If we offer these doorways they will support connecting through meaning... not to come up with the final set, but the first few where we really connect with meaning... these are the doorways that support connectivity through meaning... these can grow over time but what are the minimal number/ essence of doorways that will support what we want to have supported.

very good being on this emergent wave... it's fascinating how easily everybody clicks together without introducing or having to talk a lot

we are a microcosm of what we try to do... having this invitational field present at the website

inspired by the conversations... and the energy sensed present... blows away fears and thoughts... gives a lot of appetite to connect more deeply..

a very generative space ... value the way we are coming together and using our immediate experience ... sensing to the middle ... what is emerging?

Thank you!!!

Is "coreteam" a contraction?

George wrote: " In a conversation with Finn, we talked about it as.....".

Here are more details on that conversation:

This came out of a cafe-conversation (literally - at Cafe Ziggy, 50 m from my home) with George one morning about Evolutionary Nexus.

George brought up the notion of a Circle of people holding someone for his or hers highest potential. We also brought up the thought, that the succes of Moving The Edge can be partly due to the fact that the gathering it self was in someway not a begining, but a continuation of the field of collective intelligence engaged over the last months in the convening team.

That led to the analysis that Evolutionary Nexus did not in the same way came into being as a continuation of a held space from a collective being, but rather that a coreteam formed after ENexus aired.

So my thought now is: Could it be that “coreteam” - in spite of the intention about it – contracts the field around Enexus, rather than expanding it? And if so, that there now is a piece of work to do in naming and calling into being a circle of people, who takes upon themselves to collectively hold the field for the unfolding of the highest potential for Evolutionary Nexus.

My sense right now is, that all of that work that ordinarily is assigned to coreteam, leadershipteam, management, bord of trustees  etc. could be experienced to emerge in yet unseen ways from such a circle of people.

"A collective consciously birthing itself for the greatest good"

Ashley wrote in email:

" I noticed the subtle and important difference between these two ways of being together as a collective:

   1. A collective consciously birthing itself for the greatest good.
   2. Collaborating with others to activate change for the greatest good.

It is the first choice that I experienced at the salon and continue to experience in the hosting calls and that I would love to experience (and feel emerging) in regards to the website.”

In a conference call between Ashley, Ria and me, that Ashley summarized here, we further explored that as follows. (Sentences in italics are direct quotes from Ashley's summary of the call.)

Creative tension between Nexus as-is and as-it-could be

It has been named that we currently have 2 entities, there is the nexus-site-as-it-exists-right-now -- the life and shape that it has, the audience that is engaging it. Then, there is the vision-nexus-site-as-it-could-be -- a sacred online space available to serve the evolutionary edge and individuals and groups that feel called to be connected to it and one another (or something like that). And there is a HUGE gap between the two.

The qualities of the Nexus site as-it-could-be

1. A site that is beautiful, warm, inviting (user friendly and seducing to come back), simple, honors silence
2. A place where knowledge is shared and that is searchable
3. A site that is sustainable... money: Awareness of time, effort, and energy spent.
4. A site that facilitates relational connections and engagement
The community of stewards will need to look at all 4 and integrate them!
Source: The next stage of co-sensing and co-creation

I've been experiencing the gap between Nexus as-is and as-it-could-be that Ashley mentioned, as an almost unbearable creative tension, from the beginning of the Nexus story. During that time, I've been continually sensing what it may take to bridge that gap. The first condition is, clearly, a committed circle of stewards. In a conversation with Finn, we talked about it as:

"Calling into being a circle of people, who takes upon themselves to collectively hold the field for the unfolding of the highest potential for Evolutionary Nexus.”
Finn and George; conversation March 27.

I suggest that we put the "collective consciously birthing itself" in the focus of the next call of the stewards, supported by Finn's important insights about "it takes a field to convene a field" outlined here.
