I love it

I love this, Toke. I think you have done a wonderful job at weaving together the essence of our multiple conversations. A work of harvesting art already at the outset.

Once we send the call, what will be our next step?

I see the art of convening

Toke, I removed your posting here and posted on the 'right' place, here.

The Art of Hosting on The Art of Hosting
Europe
June, 6 - 8, 2007
Heerlijckyt van Elsmeren, Belgium

We are calling ourselves – and you and many others – to deepen our practice together.

Our purposes are:
•    meeting each other and expanding our circle of mates
•    hosting ourselves and self-organizing around questions that matter
•    being a self-reflective community of practitioners inquiring into the patterns of convening, hosting and harvesting to inform the evolution of this community and practice
•    hanging out in De Heerlijckyt – look here http://www.heerlijckyt.org/eng/engels.htm

The calling question is:
How do we live the next level of our individual and collective practices in the arts of convening, hosting and harvesting?

Topics that are already hot:
•    How do we go from individual practitioners to a connected field of practitioners? Are we a community of learners or are we a community that learns?
•    What is emerging now? Exploring what can our community become? “into words that have never been spoken before”
•    What is our presence of/in being together?
•    What might be the role of Europe in the world?
•    What have we learned with and through our practice to date? Where do we individually – and collectively – sense the edge in this?
•    How to host in other contexts? in difficult situations? in large scale change?

“Now that I have faced myself, I am ready to face the world.”

"Art of Convening" topic

Helen, thanks for your gracious offer to post the essence of the "Art of Convening" conversation on the listserv. Isn't convening part of the 5 breaths of AoH?  I suggest that you just open a new topic here and if the conversation outgrows it, we can always move it into its own forum.

Post a new forum topic

I am with you, Gyuri dear, on growing and gardening that rich and thriving AoH knowledge ecosystem.

In the interests of which, would you be kind enough (since I imagine that I don't have the permissions) to create a new forum to host the yummy conversation on the list serve about the Art of Convening? Once it is there, I volunteer to post up the essence of the conversation so far.

What a wondrous question!

Sorry to hear that you're sick. It seems that you are working even in the night, or the field is using your dream state to provide us with nutritious bites of future-responsive information as in your question.

What is the next pattern we can live - and reflect upon -  in the arts of hosting and harvesting?

That question begets the next one:

Where do new patterns come from? I suppose from the practice of constantly improving our current practices. If so, we may already live the next pattern, we just need to observe, reflect upon, and name it. For example, through the AoH listserv and here, in this forum, we are improving the practices of shared attention and reflection, by adding to them the holding asynchronous space, and with it, the potential to think, feel and act together, free from the scheduling, traveling, and money constraints of the "same time - same space" mode of working together.

The essence of what I am saying is not only about simply adding technology to the mix of AoH tools and little helpers. It's about growing the collective intelligence of the Fellowship more contiguous so that the shared knowledge and wisdom of the whole field can inform and inspire any host, anywhere, and any time, by letting her access a rich and thriving AoH knowledge ecosystem.

Are we there yet? Certainly not, but I hope it will become part of our "next pattern." I am ready to work for it if this idea resonates with and inspire, at least, a significant minority of Fellows.

Ria, thanks again for the great question that the night brought to you/us!

Take care and get well!

One more...

First of all... hi Ashley! Great to see you here!

I'm totally knocked out, with the flu in bed, but somewhere in the night came this question:

What is the next pattern we can live - and reflect upon -  in the arts of hosting and harvesting?

That's all, back to bed now...

Deepening Practice

Hil all,

I've been following this conversation lately and feel called to jump in! I notice that one level of the question invites the goal and potential to emerge and the list of sensing what the gathering will be about invites the How we'll be together that will in turn lead to the emergent outcome that will be bigger than we are (interesting that I'm using this we language!).

How I feel it when reading your back and forth is that you are calling yourselves together to deepen your practice together. I imagine that there is already a collective knowing of a linear sort that deepened practice in the art of hosting and the art of harvesting lends itself to next level experiences and unfoldings.

Another thing that I keep feeling from these conversations (this one and the art of harvesting one) is a pattern of collective meditation, your connected flow and the tuning of your collective system.

 Some thoughts from the sideline,

ashley

OK: "You're too goal oriented!" ;-)

1. The greater the interconnectivity in our community of hosts, the more likely it is that we will be able to call on a significant calling/hosting team for large-scale events.

2 & 3.  We can best understand what we are already doing (as you suggest) by being self-reflective as we do it. Who are we? Hosts. What do we do when we come together? Walk our talk, i.e. Host ourselves, each other, and our community. Why? In order to better serve the wider world and help it open up to its highest potential.

That is the form of our activity. The focus/content of our conversations will be the patterns of convening, hosting, and harvesting, which we are all interested in deepening, broadening, making more effective and powerful. That would then be our intent.

4. Hanging out in Heerlijckyt - strengthens the field of Heerlijckyt, which feeds back into strengthening our own field. Or does that seem too esoteric? The energy junkies among us (myself included) would probably accept that as a goal in itself.

5. I'm relieved to see that you instantly grok the highest potential of a hot tub!

Does this help? Or am I misunderstanding what you mean by "goal" and "potential"?

Smile

Call me too goal-oriented :-) but

what do you suggest as the potential that we may aim at serving by:

1. meeting each other and expanding the circle of mates

2. hosting ourselves and self-organising

3. being a self-reflective community of practitioners, as we host ourselves and as we inquire into the patterns of convening, hosting, harvesting

4. Hanging out in Heerlijckyt

Practice evolves, not only changes

Toke suggested this focusing question for the AoH Europe event:

What is the next level of our individual and collective practice of the art of hosting and the art of harvesting ?

I appreciate the question because it implies that there's an evolution from lower to higher level of appropriateness and adequacy to the increasing challenges and opportunities that AoH can help our clients meet.

It may even lead to another question. If we are asking what is the next level, we may want to think about also, what is the current level? Using that question could alos help us collecting anecdotal evidence of the currently most successful practices we use.

Thank you ladies Now we are

Thank you ladies

Now we are talking.....those 5 purposes will make me show up...

and a good question to focus on - dates and the wonderful  Heerlijckyt ad we are ready to invite many others.....

Squeeze it till the pips squeak

Ria and I gave it some more thought... Not exactly crafting a question, but sensing into what this gathering would be about:

1. meeting each other and expanding the circle of mates

2. hosting ourselves and self-organising

3. being a self-reflective community of practitioners, as we host ourselves and as we inquire into the patterns of convening, hosting, harvesting

4. Hanging out in Heerlijckyt

5. In a perfect world: inaugurating Lieven's HOT TUB...Cool

Some more juice possible?

Toke, your question seems very 'right', but it is not as juicy as I would like...

another try: What's the next, juicy and elegent step for myself and for the fellowship of Art of Hosting?

let's work on it further... some more suggestions?

Ria Baeck: 17:37:34Toke, something strange seems to happen... you posted the next version of the calling question for AoHoAoH this morning, no? .... it seems to be gone... weird... could you send it to me again?Toke Paludan Moeller: 17:55:31yes i saw that tried to find it and i is all gone....my suggestion was something like   -  What is the next level of our individual and collective practice of the art of hosting and the art of harvesting ? was it not like this george ? - toke

More meat from our conversation

The very struggle we had in creating the field between us was instructive of something, I feel. I experienced it as very precious. It seems to have arisen from our very different sensing styles - two heads and one body...

I recorded our conversation and will put up the relevant pieces as soon as I can transcribe them. They will add some more "information points" so that you can all see how we arrived at this question.

What is the real, real purpose and calling question

We are called to host ever more complex situations, what is needed from us as individuals and as a community, in order to meet that challenge?

 - thank you for your work here - alignment and this formulation 1.0

I will sleep on it and get back here .....with a tweeking if it comes ...

Work from the Belgian crew

Yesterday, the Belgian crew - or a little part of it - gathered at Helen's house to sharpen the purpose and the calling question for the AoHoAoH in Europe. Lieven needed private time and decided to be in nature and Simone prepared herself for the evening instead of the morning... so it were three of us: Helen, George and Ria.

We needed a lot of time to align ourselves and to establish 'the field' between ourselves, to host ourselves and the little team we were. So I'm not sure that we really 'got it'... but this is as far as we got:

We are called to host ever more complex situations, what is needed from us as individuals and as a community, in order to meet that challenge?

It is good we still have the Danish crew to sharpen and tweek this...

Ria

i love your drift - keep going

luvely helen i love your drift - keep going - toke

Great Helen!

Thanks very much for these beautiful harvest and example!

Preparing the harvesting

George and I were talking over dinner (as one does) about harvesting.

If we are going to play with taking the harvesting pattern to the next level, it might be worth investing some energy ahead of time in creating a harvesting team.

I see a role for mind-mappers/scribes for conversations; multiple digital voice recorders and laptops, plus volunteers to harvest from recordings of conversations; photographers...

I am experimenting with different ways of making these conversations travel. The feedback I have received from various sources suggest that pictures can hold and transmit a great deal of the energy from a situation... That's good to play with...

For example...

... this was a conversation about Hosting Heerlijckyt... at Heerlijckyt. And here is what happened to the tablecloth:

And this....

Is a close-up of a participant...

... and here's a seasonal talking piece in the hands of a master...

... you get my drift...
