Some history

I'm a mother of two daughters and consider my Work to be a continual process of understanding the essence of sustainable connections, relationships, networks and institutions. In my professional aspect, I am an academic with a passion for understanding emerging patterns in sustainable fisheries management institutions. I have a strong belief in the self-organizing capacity of people who share a willingness to trust one another and a deep desire to take care of their communities. I'm particularly interested in the characteristic of resilience and the attribute of renewal. I observe my own capacity to emerge from dark into light, from doubt to confidence, from weakness to strength, and I am continually in awe of the dance of paradoxes. I take a great deal of delight from knowing that in some place, in some time, we shall witness the opposite of the present state of our command and control mechanistic, fear based institutions. And I remind myself often that without this stage of learning, we would never be prepared for the next. I say to myself the ancient sanskrit words, that roughly mean in english, "I am that too", as I view my daughters, my husband, my friends and colleagues. As I do this, I am becoming more and more compassionate and more and more at peace with myself. I feel called to the Art of Hosting Community in some way, that I'm still exploring. And I am grateful an arena has been created to share and explore the question of how to conduct meaningful conversations. This is really the essence of community, our most ancient and sacred institution, don't you think? Laura.
