- I was teaching English in an International School in Thessaloniki, Greece, when Nato decided to bomb the former Yugoslavia, and the homes of many of my students. I decided to get involved in conflict resolution, civil society work, peacebuilding and fostering reconciliation after deep-rooted inter-ethnic conflict. I worked at the Center for Democracy and Reconciliation in Southeast Europe for 6 years, and since 2006 work at the Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation. I saw in the Balkans how non-violent action was more effective than Nato bombs for ousting an oppressive nationalistic dictator.
